Is it okay for significant others to participate in the exchanges of my child?

Unless your court order forbids others from coming along, either parent can bring along friends or companions.

In consideration of your children’s feelings, check out these tips:

  • Don’t introduce someone to your child until you have been dating a long time and things are serious.
Children bond easily. If they grow attached to someone you are dating, they will suffer if you breakup.
  • Children younger than 5 only need to know you are seeing a friend.
  • Show your children they come first. Keep pick-up and drop-off arrangements between Mom and Dad or other friends or relatives that you child knows and trusts. Children want to know who is picking them up.
